hello: i have been offered an almost new Yamaha / Toshiba? C1 "music" computer. this one has 2 720K fdd, 10Mhz '286 processor, 1.5Mb ram, and beaucoup midi ins & outs & thrus. what is the net.wisdom regarding this device? i opened the case to see if i could figger out the difficulty in interfacing some sort of hard drive and it appears to me that an additional interface is needed. there is a 50 socket edge connector on the system board that should either accept a card, or if i am really lucky, is some kind of mutant SCSI port. is this true? i realize that this was quite a wonderful & expensive item when it was new, but was not a big seller, and (i believe) was discontinued. specifically i would like to know: 1: the approximate worth of the machine. it is in good shape, but is a '286-10 /1.5Mb/ dual 720k... 2: is it expandable, and if so what is the approximate cost of the hard disk interface? (i probly can figure out an appropriate drive). there are no sockets for any additional memory, however there is a expansion slot that looks like it would accept something like a modem. is this a Toshiba compatible slot? is there a ram card that will work in it? 3: does the current crop of music software available support the midi ports on the thing, or has it been orphaned? thanks in advance for any help please post or email claude

I believe other sequencers like Voitra support these also. Almost any MSDOS (IBM family) program written for the PC will work, as the machine is really an IBM clone setup for music. The machine works well and is supported by many current software packages. However, a 286/10 is glacially slow. My local Yamaha dealer (who actually stocks the C1) tells me Yamaha is in the process of updating the machine to a 386-SX/16.
