[comp.music] Scream Tracker

gollum@ucscb.UCSC.EDU (60484000) (06/14/91)

A number of months ago, I uncovered a shareware utillity for IBM PC/compatible
machines that produces 4 voice music, from digitized instrument files,
*without* any additional hardware... to the best of my knowledge, this is the
only program of it's kind around (unless you want to consider, perhaps, EA's
Music Construction Set *sigh*)

The point is, it's shareware; and the freely distributed version won't allow
you to save files, or import amiga-type music files, which is a serious
drawback (if you ever expected to get serious use out of the shareware version).

*sigh* (again)
I don't often register shareware (though I reallyreallyreally should) not havinga whole lot of money most of the time, but *this* sucker is incredible. I
would be much more than happy to pay the $48 (just to keep this guy going!) :)

Problem: the Scream Tracker support BBS doesn't seem to exist anymore...
and it's the only place listed in the docs where the author can be reached.
The author: Sammi Tammilehto; with address Korikatu 8, SF-20780 Kaarina,
Finland.

The BBS: Silicon Dragon; +358-(9)-21-500318

AAARGH! It's not there anymore. :( :(

does anyone have any clue as to where I might reach Sammi? Or where I could
get a copy of the registered version somehow? Or would anyone like to sell
me their copy? :)
Or...
(ack)

Does anyone have this program anyway?
Please email me, if possible... I *might* not have access to this newsgroup
in the near future... (I will of course, let you people know what I find,
if anything)

again ack, but also thanks in advance.

On the ftp site 26.2.0.74 (simtel) in directory msdos/music, or on ftp
site 128.252.135.4 (wuarchive) in directory mirrors/msdoc/music, there
are several programs to play 3-voice music through an IBM PC speaker.

VM1088.ARC is the one I have tried, and it lets you input songs in ascii.
The input format is similar to the BASIC "PLAY" format.

sorry if I didn't clarify a little...
I *have* seen vmusic, and used it quite a bit...  but it's only three voices;
three square waves, at that, and it's rather clunky (ST will let you play
music in the background while you shell to DOS)
btw, the latest version (i've seen) of vmusic is 03-89... if you want it, I'll
ftp it somewere... (haven't seen it around too much)

*sigh* I almost wish I had never met ST... can't get it, can't live without it

hmm...

Have you seen Trak Blaster? It's the best Noise/Scream Tracker player for the
Sound Blaster. If you have a fast computer, it also displays awesome graphics,
like a spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope for each seperate voice and for the
final output.

Look for the file TBLAST20.ZIP, It's on my BBS, but is probably available for
FTP somewhere.

Does anyone know of any FTP sites where you can get Scream Tracker modules?
Or of a place that has Amiga modules that can be converted?
Or how about a newer version of Scream Tracker?

All help 'preciated
