The University of Kent runs the UKnet uucp network backbone for the UK. It is now starting to offer ip services and would like some DNS advice. ns1.cs.ucl.ac.uk manages the uk. ac.uk. zones. They are happy for us to run the uknet.ac.uk. zone. If ns1.cs.ucl.ac.uk maintain NS and A records for uknet.ac.uk. can uknet.ac.uk act as the primary name server for uknet.ac.uk. and at the same time control its own MX HINFO etc record types. I know we can create records for host1.uknet.ac.uk. host2.uknet.ac.uk. etc but can we create them for uknet.ac.uk. I have had conflicting advice on this matter, so I would welcome an authoritative answer, preferably with an example of someone who had actually done it (and it had worked). From a cautious Englishman. All help appreciated. Peter Houlder
