RFC1034, section 4.3.4 (page 27) -- the "negative caching" section -- suggests the idea that SOA RR's could be used to revalidate data in a server's cache, by getting a current copy of the SOA RR for a zone and determining that its serial number is the same as that which was in effect when data was obtained earlier from that zone. Has anyone actually attempted to do this? If so, I would be grateful for any information about who did it, how they did it, and what conclu- sions they reached.
