[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.domains] hierarchical naming conventions

spgdrp@GANGES.UCOP.EDU ("Donald R. Proctor spgdrp@ganges.ucop.edu") (05/25/91)

What is the current thinking about third- and fourth-level
domain names? We are thinking of implementing names of the
form foo.bar.ucop.edu, where foo is the host name and bar
is a departmental designation.

Is it considered bad form to mix names like foo.bar.ucop.edu
in the same domain as names like foo.ucop.edu? I'd like to
be particularly sensitive to any consequences related to BIND
or sendmail.

Thanks, Don.
