[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.domains] root server changes

NIC@NIC.DDN.MIL (DDN Reference) (06/29/91)

The following is a list of current root servers, followed by a file
suitable for use as a "root.cache" file for BIND users. Changes since the
last announcement are the temporary deletion of GUNTER-ADAM.AF.MIL, and the
addition of the first non-US server in Sweden, NIC.NORDU.NET. NORDUnet
is the backbone network for the Nordic countries, connecting their academic
networks with the US Internet and the european IP networks.

It has been argued that this would create a lot of traffic from the USA
to the external root nameserver as machines try to work out the closest
root name server. I hope that somebody will report (after a while) whether
in fact this does cause any problems.
