Having been a long-time CP/M hacker with an s-100 buss z-80 system, I have felt left behind lately with all the 16-bit micros being sold. But, I did not want scrap all equipment that I have. So. what to to do?? Enter HSC,Inc of herkimer NY 13350 (315) 895-7426 HSC sells an upgrade kit for Z-80 owners to allow them to use BOTH the existing Z-80 and either an Intel 8086 or a Motorola 68000 cpu, running either MS-DOS or cpm-86 or cpm-68k. Their products are: 1) 8086 cpu with 256k of memory, CP/M-86 or MS-DOS, and software to allow the 256k to be use as a ramdisk disk by either the z-80 or the 8086 cpus. $650.00 2) 256k additional memory $467.00 3) 512k additional memory $659.00 4) I/O Adapter with real-time clock, interrupt controller, timers, and an unter to their IBM PC BUS MODULE. $130.00 5) IBM PC BUS MODULE consisting of a four slot IBM PC compatiable motherboard, and an IBM keyboard interface. Price unannounced, delivery expected in May,1984 Their 8086 module with their ibm bus means that you buy an IBM video graphics board and be IBM compatiable WITHOUT giving up your z-80. Also, your machine will be using an Intel 8086 which is at least 50% then the 8088 cpu. HSC also has a Motorola 68000 cpu board with 256km,cpm-68k,and Digital Research 'C' compiler for $799.00. This board also works with their memory boards, and HSC expects to have an IBM PC BUS MODULE available REAL SOON. All in all, HSC is worth looking into if your have a z-80 based system that you would like to upgrade. BTW, I am in no way affiliated with HSC (they are NY and I live in Ill). -- Richard Covert AT&T Bell Laboratories ...ihnp4!ihuxq!covert (312) 979-7488
