[net.micro] 68020 vs 16k - is the 020 worth the wait?

BILLW%sri-kl@sri-unix.UUCP (02/16/84)

Does anyone know whether motarola or national are planning
all-in-one chips like the Intel 80186? (ie onchip DMA,
interupt controller, memory decoding, etc) To me, this
is one of the more exciting things happening in chips,
since it should make possible truly inexpensive general
purpose computers...

National will be coming out with the NS32132 which will be
like a cross between a iAPX186 and the MC68020. This will
be the true competitor to the MC68020 (not the NS32032).
This is my opinion.

Of course they are planning all-in-one chips. Specifically, NSC is planning
a 32132 with fpu and mmu built in. (I think 32132 is the designation).
