I recently posted to comp.sys.zenith asking for help with external floppy drives on a DTC hard/floppy controller in a Zenith 248. Thanks to the several people who sent me email for suggestions. Most people suggested a secondary controller or a bridge board be added to the system for the external drives. I just found from another source that the Zenith/DTC controllers with the DB-37 connector are capable of running external drives, but it requires another driver, XFBIO.SYS. Apparently if you purchase the controller from DTC, you get the driver with it. If you get it from Zenith the driver isn't supplied. You still load the DRIVER.SYS as in the DOS manual after XFBIO.SYS. I obtained the driver and installed it and it all works fine now. If you try this, the external floppies use drive select 3 and 4, as opposed to reusing 1 and 2 like on the old PC/XT external drive connectors. The same person also mentioned that if you have the DTC controller that doesn't have the external DB-37, but does have the appropriate place on the board, you can add the connector and everything else is on the board to make it work. -- Dave Chasey - Hardware Systems Engineer Purdue University Engineering Computer Network West Lafayette, IN 47905 (317) 494-6425 Internet: wn9nbt@ecn.purdue.edu UUCP: ...!pur-ee!wn9nbt -- Dave Chasey - Hardware Systems Engineer Purdue University Engineering Computer Network West Lafayette, IN 47905 (317) 494-6425 Internet: wn9nbt@ecn.purdue.edu UUCP: ...!pur-ee!wn9nbt
