I had felt the need to upgrade the memory on my Zenith 248-LP/12 to 3Mb to 3Mb of memory. I took a netter's advice and ordered the chips from chip merchant. I asked for 1x9 80ns SIMM chips (2 of them.) I went through the installation procedure verbatim out of the manual, except that the manual lead me to believe I had to rewire a jumper to pins 1 & 2 but later I figured out that that only applied to expansion to 6Mb. After installation, the setup screen came on and I set the expansion memory to 2048K (extended.) Booted up again, and the diagnostics tell me that the expansion memory is set to 2048K but no expansion memory was detected. Every diagnostic tells me that it can't find any extended memory. What gives? Is there any way to track down the source of the problem? I don't know if it's the chips, the motherboard, the simm sockets or what. Is it possible to configure the machine to 2Mb of memory with just the (2) 1Mb Simms? I don't think this is possible...I tried it, but maybe I wasn't doing something right. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I would even welcome sheer speculation. Thanks for your time. --Payman PS During setup I forgot what to set my Hard Disk drive type to and I don't have that written down anywhere. Would you happen to know this number? My hard drive is the factory pre-installed 20Mb drive, if that helps any. -- ______________________________________________ Payman Parastaran / payman@uiuc.edu..............(217) 398-1452 / _______________________/_____________________________________________/__________
