[comp.sys.zenith] Low level of hard drive -- again...

krg2@po.CWRU.Edu (Kevin R. Glazier) (02/06/91)

Many thanks to those who posted or e-mailed me about formatting
my hard drive...but I am not using Zenith's version of DOS. And
I don't have the prep command. Any other ideas??
(I already knew about the prep command. But I had Zenith DOS
v 3.3 and I bought DOS 4.01 at a computer store. Then about
a week later I got a letter from Zenith to upgrade...)

How about booting up with Zenith DOS 3.3, using PREP, and then when you have
to reboot, boot with MS-DOS 4.0?

Since it is a low-level format, it shouldn't matter what version of DOS you
use.

More precisly. Boot off Zenith DOS 3.3+ floppy and run PREP.

Then run PART, to partition the disk, if needed.

RE-boot off MS-DOS 4.0 floppy and then format partitions.
Using MS-DOS 4.0 system on your boot partition.

In my experience, you should think about getting ZENITH DOS for a Zenith.
On the surface you may never have a problem with MS-DOS running on a Zenith.
But, I'd be wondering about possible pitfalls of doing so, is your data safe?
Will obscure MS-DOS commands work with Zenith's hardware?
