[comp.sys.zenith] Duplex wackiness between a Hayes 2400 and a Z19

gnn@manray.Berkeley.EDU (George Neville-Neil) (02/13/91)

Hi Folks,

I have already called Zenith and they can't seem to find someone who
has been with them long enough to know about this so.....

I have a zenith h19 or z19, from what I understand they are the same.
It is connected to a Hayes Smartmodem 2400. It is connected at 2400.
When I issue commands to the mode there is no problem. I.e. all AT
commands work as per usual. The problem is that once I dial in anywhere
I get a strange kind of half-duplex mode. I.e. I type and m and a
quarter second later there is a second m on the screen. So if I type
the word "test" fast enough I get....

	testtest

or some such mixture. Now the thing is if I switch the h19 to
half-duplex I will get three letters. I.e.

	ttteeesssttt or tteesstttest

	if I type quickly enough.

When the modem is connected using the same cable to a Radio Shack Model
102 everything is fine. The cable is a 4 wire null modem. I.e.
2,3,8,20 (or it may be 2,3,7,20) I am not sure as I am not at home at
the moment.

	Anyways.....

	Any Ideas ??

	Thanks,
	George

George Neville-Neil What if they gave an orgy and nobody came ?

Try giving the command

ATF1

To tell the modem not to echo a copy back to the screen. It seems to me
that when you are getting two copies on the screen then both your modem
and the computer you are calling are echoing the characters. When you
get three copies then the terminal is also echoing back a copy. You
can control both your modem and your terminal :-)

If the command ATF1 has undesireable effects, then just undo it with
a ATF0

Note that you must be in command mode to do this.
