[comp.sys.zenith] Memory question

shikascs@clutx.clarkson.edu (Glo) (04/21/91)

I have a Zenith-248 computer which is at 512k. There are no chip slots to
increase the memory to 640k. Is there anyway I can expand it to 640k
just by adding/soldering chips?

Also, is there anyway I could increase the speed of the computer from
8 mhz to 12,16 or 20 Mhz? Will this have a dramatic effect on the wait
state which is currently 0. The current RAM chip speed is 100 ns.

Thanks in advance,

-Chris Shikashio

Zenith sells additional memory boards to allow to fill to 640K

I'd strongly recommend you look into the Boca Ram Board (PC Connection carries
them) for the Zenith 248's that max out with 512K on system board. We used
the Boca Ram Board to give us 2.5 Mb that can be partitioned into EMS, Extended
and can backfill to bring the system Ram up to 640K. We've used them with
no difficulties. The Zenith memory board to top off your memory at 640K
is expensive and relatively useless.
