[comp.ivideodisc] CD-I authoring systems

daford@watdragon.waterloo.edu (Daniel Ford) (01/16/88)

I read in the Feb. edition of "CD-ROM review" that SUN and Philips have
signed a deal in which SUN will develop authoring systems for CD-I
applications (perhaps CD-ROM also?).

How long have they been at it? Does anyone know who else is developing such
authoring systems?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, my name is Mitsu Hadeishi and I work in the CD-I Development
Group at Electronic Arts. We are also working on an authoring
system for CD-I, and we have been in communication with Sun to
help standardize file formats, etc., although our efforts are
separate. We completed a simple CD-I emulator in October which we've
been using to test product concepts and to flesh out the issues of
CD-I software/product design, and we shall be getting a reference
prototype from Philips by April of this year on which to begin full-blown
development efforts.
