[comp.ivideodisc] controlling videodisk players

jay@mitisft.Convergent.COM (Jay O'Conor) (05/05/89)

Some months ago (before November) there was an article in MacWeek
regarding a box that would allow a computer to control any videodisc
player, not just a player designed for computer control.
Does anyone know about this box? Does anyone hold on to MacWeek that
far back that could look for this?

I didn't see the MacWeek article but I believe the hardware you
want is called "The Box" and it's sold by The Voyager Company,
1351 Pacific Coast Highway, Santa Monica, CA 90401 (213) 451-1383
Fax:213.394.2156. The Box links many consumer model videodisk
players to a Macintosh, including Pioneer 2000, 4000, LDS-1,
LDW-1, 700, 900, 1010, 1030, and 3030, and the Magnavox 8040.
It comes with cables, jacks, and HyperCard software for controlling
the player. The price is $199.95 and will work with a Mac Plus,
SE, or II (I don't know about the 030 models). If you do get one
I'd be interested in your appraisal of it. Could you post to the
net your findings?
