The following is a list of groups that I think should be creamed. Some have gone unused for months, some are no longer needed (mostly ARPA digests that are now gatewayed into USENET groups), and some were just made too specific to support themselves. There should obviously be discussion on this, as it opens up the whole concept of getting rid of newsgroups when they have worn out, something not done up until now. No one person has the right to say what should stay and what should go; I am merely making suggestions based on facts and opinions. If there are no objections (or if there is a majority of support), I will either remove the groups (or those from the list that people support the removal of) or ask someone else to do it. Adam ----------------------------------------------------------------------- net.auto.vw I think it's too specific. It is also not used much. net.cms Hasn't been used very much. net.games.dip Hasn't been used in over 3 months. net.games.trivia We already have net.trivia, which seems to be the most heavily used of the two. Let's get rid of net.games.trivia. net.info-micro We already have net.micro and fa.info-micro (see below for fa.info-micro) net.info-terms We already have fa.info-terms net.lang.apl Hasn't been used for over 2 months. net.news.directory Hasn't been used for over 4 months. net.oa Hasn't been used for over 4 months. net.rec.bridge Hasn't been used for over 8 months. net.research Hasn't been used for over 3 months. net.tv.sctv Hasn't been used for over 4 months and is much too specific. net.wines Hasn't been used for over 1.5 months. MAYBE too specific. fa.info-micro Appears to be gatewayed to net.micro fa.railroad Appears to be gatewayed to net.railroad fa.space Gatewayed to net.space fa.works Appears to be gatewayed to net.works ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I have not listed all groups that have gone unused for months. In particular, groups that are obviously quiescent now but usually spring up into action in their own time (things like net.sport.baseball, which have seasons, etc.) are not on the list. I am also in no way criticizing the usefulness of the groups nor am I criticizing their authors for creating them; some groups on the list have served very good purposes but are now dead and should be removed. Remember, we can always recreate a group if it is needed again. One last note: I have not bothered to list ''groups'' such as net.joke, net.periph, net.uniz-wizards, net.uniz-wzrads, etc. as it should be obvious that they should be removed.
