There's a group called alt.hypertext that is having some interesting discussion about the advantages of on-line (i.e., hypermedia-based) documentation over paper-based, the conversion process, design, and so on. That overlaps a lot with my interests, so I thought I'd mention it here in case others are interested as well. And I'll throw in my .02 worth in the Great Name Debate: I think the current name is okay, but if I were going to suggest a new one, it would be just plain comp.interactive. I know it's The Usenet Way to subdivide a topic even unto the atomic level, but I'd like to see a group that encompasses interactive-videodisc, CD-I, interactive computer-based training, "multimedia," virtual reality... hell, all the things that we call "interactive." I agree with the person who pointed out that there's already a rec.video--video qua video questions can go there; I'm only interested in it if it's a question about video in relation to computers (or if it's a posting on the level of Larry's back there, where he discusses what's the best standard for high-quality at low price!). I'd like to see this as a group where one would be as likely to discuss interface design as overlay cards. --Kathy -- ........................................................................... : Kathy Strong : "Try our Hubble-Rita: just one shot, : : (Clouds moving slowly) : and everything's blurry" : : clouds@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu : --El Arroyo : :..........................................................................:
