I just had installed in my office an Imaging Technologies Series 151 image processing system. The contractor that did the software development was able to get this system to record single-frame transient events. What I mean by this is an event that lasts less than 33 milliseconds (one video frame) will be recorded. The test that we have done is a video tape of 4000 frames of images. Each image has a low intensity frame number on it, and either a zero-intensity, medium-intensity, or high-intensity rectangle. The rectangles are from 1-10 frames long. The system can be set up to record all 4000, the medium and high intensity, the medium intensity, or the high intensity images. The amazing thing is it doesn't miss ANY frames. The total cost for this was $87,000.
