The following pres release may be of interest to anyone concerned with CD-ROM and the handicapped. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DATE: Jan 16, 1991 TO: SIGCAT MEMBERs FROM: Tom Dennison SUBJECT: Formation of SIG-TEAL (SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP TO EXPEDITE THE ACCOMODATION LAW) The purpose of forming SIG-TEAL is to improve access to CD-ROM published works by the visually impaired, the deaf, and selected physically disabled who use computers. The recently passed disability legislation has the purpose of providing greater access to the job market for disabled individuals. CD-ROM technology provides selected disabled individuals with potential access tO vast amounts of information and thereby an increased opportunity for new careers. The main objective of SIG-TEAL is to establish a network of CD-ROM industry, Government and disability groups to foster an exchange of information on problems that prevent full use of the technology by the disabled.
