[comp.ivideodisc] TECHNOLOGY PARTNERS WANTED

shaw@pegasus.com (Sandy Shaw) (02/15/91)

I wasn't sure where to post this, I would welcome suggestions from
netters about appropriate groups for this announcement:

TECHNOLOGY PARTNERS WANTED

Compact Data Inc. has developed a potential breakthrough technology
in the field of data compression. Our data compression algorithm called
Fractal Formed Data Compression or FFDC, uses the mathematics of fractal
geometry along with heuristic learning principles to achieve lossless
compression/decompression. FFDC can be used with all types of data, whether
images, text, or binary data. FFDC also can be used as "back-end" for many
existing data compression techniques to produce further data compression.

FFDC is an asymmetric algorithm with the compression side requiring
many times the computations of the decompression side. The compression
side (currently) requires the power of supercomputer. The decompression
can be performed on a PC, workstation, or on an ASIC. FFDC has many
potential uses in the storage and transmission of archival data,
including video and multimedia applications.

Compact Data is currently seeking joint development and technology
partners for development of an FFDC commercial prototype and related
technologies. We seek partners to aid in technical expertise, ASIC design
and manufacturing, and marketing.

We welcome all inquiries and requests for additional information.
For those companies and/or individuals interested in joint development, an
information pamphlet is available describing our company, its current
research , FFDC, and our future objectives.

Well it depends. Are you looking for something to contribute, or are you
going to further impede the industry with another software patent?

If it's the latter, there is an extremely small set of groups for that sort
of thing (considering Usenet was built w/o patents). If it's the former,
I expect you'll find all sorts of cooperation!

For those of you who tried to send a FAX to Compact Data I must apologize
for posting an incorrect FAX number. The correct number is below.

Hey, I tried sending you a fax and the number was wrong... Could you
repost the correct number? Oh, and since it takes awhile for it to
sink in, could you post it 6 times? Thanx in advance...
