[comp.lang.icon] Contributed programs and version 7.5 UNIX installation

hildum@iris.ucdavis.edu (Eric Hildum) (07/15/89)

Hello!

I have just recently installed version 7.5 of Icon on a Sun 3/60 Sun
OS 3.5 system. The UNIX tar file contained the ipl directory and
associated programs; however, these appear to be out of date, and do
not match the listings given the iplv7p1.doc file. The iplv7p1.tar
file contains a set of procedures and programs that correspond to the
document, but does not include any make files or scripts to install
the library. Is the contributed library currently undergoing
revision, and should we expect a new tar file soon?

The UNIX and VMS distributions of 7.5 of Icon were assembled before
the current Version 7 of the Icon program library was complete. These
distributions contail an older versi of the library, as you've noted.

We do not plan to update the UNIX and VMS distributions of Icon in the
near future. However, the documentation that accompanies Version 7
of the Icon program library contains the information necessary to
install it. Granted, there is no "button to push", it's really quite
easy.
