While we are deleting groups, let's kill net.test The net is now so big that there is no reason for anybody who is not a "net vet" (ie. involved in the writing and design of the news software itself) to test the whole net. For those people, there are many other ways of performing such a test, many of them much more useful. Such people are also usually posting one article per day anyway so they could use that to the same purpose. For testing you can almost always use "test", "to.blat" or "<subnet>.test" if you have to. Even better you can look in the uucp spools quickly and kill the test so it never gets out. So let's axe net.test. Scratch it from the default ngfile if you are a site that passes on news source. Delete it from documentation. Yell at anybody who uses it for whatever reason.

We have also been over this one many times in the past, and it was always decided to keep net.test. While it is boring to read, no one said you had to read it, and it does serve a function. Also, no one said you had to let it into your site.

I agree that we should kill net.test, and have for some time neither accepted it locally nor forwarded it. (Note that this accounts for more than 60 sites.) Paul Lustgarten Netnews administrator for ... Bell Labs - Indian Hill
