Not quite a micro design, but did anyone else read the article in the IEEE
Spectrum which stated that the MicroVax-I datapath chip had been layed out by a
silicon compiler?

I was very suprised -- While I've heard of MacPitts and seen some of the things
which have been done (a year and a half ago, admittedly) using that system, I
didn't realise that the art had progressed to the point that it was actually
used for commercial designs.

According the article, DEC did not do the design itself, they contracted it out
to a company in California. But still, that's impressive.

Does anyone else out there know of other commerical chips which have been layed
out using such compilers?
