[comp.lang.asm370] Formatting VSAM disks for CMS. DSF for CMS?

MEHRAN@SUWATSON.BITNET (Mehran Delparastaran) (01/12/88)

There is an 'IPL DSF S2' file. To use it, do the following from your
virtual machine:

PURGE RDR CLASS I
SPOOL PUNCH * CLASS I NOCONT
PUNCH IPL DSF S (NOH
SPOOL RDR CLASS I
IPL 00C CLEAR

Wait a couple of seconds and then press ENTER.

I think the original msg. was inquiring about a version of DSF which didn't
have to be IPL'ed. i.e. execute as a normal CMS command. I've never come across
such a program, though

Why does IPL'ing a great pain ?
It is very easy to format disks for VSAM by IPL DSF. We have an IPL'able
DSF release 8 and we use it to format disk packages and VSAM.
Do you use an extra file to define DSF parameters for formatting the disk ?
What is your problem ? Please send more information to me or to this list.
