Dunno about Bix, but you can get to him on Compuserve through Usenet. I have two ID numbers for him, but don't know which one he uses most. Try these: 72230.267@compuserve.com or 73407.320@compurseve.com -larry -- " All I ask of my body is that it carry around my head." - Thomas Alva Edison - +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | // Larry Phillips | | \X/ lphillips@lpami.wimsey.bc.ca -or- uunet!van-bc!lpami!lphillips | | COMPUSERVE: 76703,4322 -or- 76703.4322@compuserve.com | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+

EAT ME
Hello. A while back I posted some questions concerning Arexx, and got
almost no help. A bit of the help was very helpful, but most just
accused me of 'pirating' the package and associated villany.
When I had explained that at the time I had not yet recieved the 1.10 update,
and gave examples, I suppose they forgot about it.
Well, I just got my 1.10 update, installed it, and tried out my stuff.
It just blew my mind on how much faster and 'slicker' the thing is.
But, there are a few problems that keep turning up with a big project I have.
I've written a bbs, mostly in Arexx, and the system NEVER crashed so far
with a guru or anything. Of course there were bug's, but I fix them as I
find them. While it's running though, it stays together really well.
Anyway, under V1.06, it never 'hung'. But now, today, it's managed to hang
itself about 6 times. All of these have been when it's run in a console
window (possibly NewCon:). It hasn't crashed yet running over my terminal.
The crashes are weird. Sometimes the console just crams lots of junk all
the console. Just keep's spitting it out. If I touch the window (to move or
resize it) it hangs. If I hit the right mouse button, it hangs.
Here's about what it goes through when it hangs:
START BBS
DO SOME STARTUP DOOR FUNCTIONS (SET TERMINAL AND JUNK)
DISPLAY THE ROOT MENU (MAIN MENU)
GET A MENU CHOICE FROM THE USER.
CHECK IF CHOICE VALID (SIMPLY A VERIFY() )
IF YES, THEN LOOK UP MENU ITEM IN A FORMAT LIKE: MENU.MAIN.3.2
(THIS CONTAINS A SPECIAL COMMAND FOR THE INTERPRETER)
(Better Use LowerCase)
So, it's found out what key I pushed, what the compiler has translated it
to, and it interprets a special command.
It always hangs (or crashes), when I do a simple 'menu_again' command (it just
re-displays the menu. That function is linked to the ? key.
Sometimes it hangs under stress testing with the 'previous_menu' command (
jumps to the last visible menu if you're allowed) That function is linked
to the - key.
This has been working flawlessly, and quickly even under 1.06.
Now it hangs.
I can't send up the code, 'cause it's sort of private for now.
Is there any way to send Will Hawes mail to BIX through usenet?
If not, I guess I'll have to do it voice.
