[news.software.nntp] Infinitely forking mini-inews for nntp 1.5

dwho@nmtsun.nmt.edu (David Olix) (07/29/89)

Please excuse me if I am posting this to the wrong newsgroup, but I have
seen a few other bug reports here...

System:
  VAX 11-750 running 4.3BSD
  News version 2.11 B
nntp version 1.5 (tried compiling with cc and gcc with same result)

The basic problem is this:
I start up inews (the version that came with nntp 1.5, NOT the version
distributed with readnews, et. al.) with:

inews -h < /staff/dwho/.article

and things *VERY* rapidly blew up and the computer crashed. It seems that on
the second call to get_server() in inews.c the machine loses track of its
stack somehow and starts vforking like MAD! The process slots fill up and
that's the end.

If someone has any idea what I am doing wrong or needs any more info, please
e-mail to dwho@nmtvax.nmt.edu. I've tried asking my local news guru, but
he appears to be stumped as well. I've fought too long and hard to let
news die now!

Thanks in advance,
  David Olix (dwho@nmtsun.nmt.edu)
