From: "Ferd Brundick (VLD/LTTB)" <fsbrn@brl-voc> Haaah, Every UN*X system should have a directory (usually called .lists) that contains a sort of vector table that points the mailing lists in the proper direction. A <large> file named 'master' in that directory contains a table of all the mailing lists and a paragraph or two about each one (point of contact, intended use, etc). I am including the header info from this file below. dsw, fferd <fsbrn@brl-voc> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [OFFICE-3]<ALMSA>INTEREST-GROUPS.TXT Last Updated: 7 Feb 84 -------------------- PLEASE SEND CORRECTIONS, ADDITIONS, UPDATES, ETC. From: Howard Walter <howard@brl-bmd> While perhaps every UNIX should have such a directory most do not. The .lists directory is a brl convention. The file called master is also a local convention. As Ferd mentions, it does contain a summary of the net digests and is available by anonymous ftp from sri-nic as "sri-nic:<netinfo>interest-groups.txt". Howard Walter

From: Stephen X. Nahm <sxn%bbncc-washington@BRL.ARPA> You may wish to look at the Assigned Numbers document published by the NIC. One of the lists which this document gives is assigned *Internet* network numbers. The Internet is specifically those nets which abide by the defense department protocols (IP/TCP, etc.) and which are connected to another Internet network. You can get a copy of the Assigned Numbers document via ftp to SRI-NIC (address: 10.0.0.51) using GUEST as user id and ANONYMOUS as password. Retrieve the file "<RFC>RFC870.TXT". I can mail you the Assigned Networks portion if you can't get to SRI. It's an interesting (and lengthy) list. Steve Nahm BBN Communications
