If you are running ALONE, without inetd, and trim the nntp logs in the same style as the main news logs (by moving nntplog to nntplog.0, etc) then you lose all logging if the machine is up for more days than the number of logs you keep. This is because file-descriptors are valid accross 'mv' commands.
