I'm not much of a nntp guru, so forgive me if these are dumb remarks. I've installed nntpd 1.5.6 on a Sun 3 running SunOS 4.0.3. I've got a problem with the nntp access file. Basically, it only pays attention to "default" and to numeric IP addresses. It doesn't pay attention to lines that have real hostnames on them, or to a "*.natinst.com" line. I looked at the code in access_inet.c, where it calls gethostbyaddr(). If that call fails, it sets the hostname to the IP address. I can't figure out why gethostbyaddr() should fail, but evidently it does. Anybody run into this before? Please respond by mail. I can provide many more details if you're interested. Brian H.
