A common problem is when two fast (typically NNTP) feeds both try to feed you the same article at the same time. Various locking schemes have been proposed, including the current /tmp/L<msgid>. Does this idea make sense? Create a new kind of entry in the news history file that indicates an article is incoming. Give it an expiration date of 30 minutes from now. If the article hasn't changed it's status to a regular unexpired article by then, assume it won't show up. Comments? /r$ -- Please send comp.sources.unix-related mail to rsalz@uunet.uu.net. Use a domain-based address or give alternate paths, or you may lose out.
