i note that the doc for NNTPD states that the NEWGROUPS command "..is no longer supported, and it's use is discouraged" Ostensibly, this is because newsgroup creation dates are not stored. i'm worried by this, because my NNTP browser uses this command all the time to discover new groups, rather than do a LIST of newsgroups (which takes quite a few seconds for most NNTP servers) and compare with an existing list. what alternatives are there? Actually, one solution is to use Cnews since it does do this and NNTP knowns how to use the information. Bnews does not do this (yet). Once the world is mostly Cnews or Bnews is officially patched, this notice will get removed from the NNTP docs. -- Stan internet: sob@bcm.tmc.edu Director, Networking Olan uucp: {rutgers, mailrus}!bcm!sob and Systems Support Barber Opinions expressed are only mine.
