NNTP 1.5.9 has a major bug when used with CNEWS. This bug will be fixed in the 1.5.10 release, but in the meantime, you can work around it by using the spawn.c from the 1.5.8 release or not installing this release and waiting for the 1.5.10 release. For the record, I don't have CNEWS so I can never be sure that NNTP will work with CNEWS. The folks in Canada are helpful in notifying me of problems w.r.t NNTP. I expect I will be hearing from them on the best solution to the problems with CNEWS that may have been introduced with 1.5.9. If I don't hear from them, I will install the parts from 1.5.8's spawn.c that are not BNEWS specific with appropriate #ifdef's bracketing them. In any case, please continue to send bug reports to "nntp@lib.tmc.edu" [Just so you know, I frequently send beta code out for testing at selected sites, but for 1.5.9 this was not possible due to certain events that are best not described here. Assuming these events to not repeat, 1.5.10 will be tested in this fashion.]
