I am having trouble with nntp/rn. We recently brought up nntp on one of our SUNS and are successfully getting news feeds. I tried today to build rrn on another of our workstations and to access the first system as a remote news server. My problem is getting nntpd to recognize my workstation as a valid news reader. If I set the default to read and post, everything is fine. However, if I set default to no no and then try to put in my workstation for read and post, or put in the IP number of the workstation, or the network name, I always get told that my workstation does not have permission for the server. I must be doing something stupid, but it isn't immediately apparent. The nntp_access file looks like this: default read no calvin read post linac read post midway.uchicago.edu xfer no uwm.edu xfer no This works, but if I change the default line to read no no, calvin cannot read or post.
