[news.software.nntp] NNTP closes connection to transfers after 1 article is transfered

mcgough@wrdis01.af.mil (Jeffrey B. McGough) (01/15/91)

I am running B News @ patchlevel 19
I am running NNTP @ patchlevel 10
I am running rn @ patchlevel 54

When one of my feeds connects to me to transfer news he is able to post maybe
one article (at the most) then I close my nntp connection.

I have not a clue as to why this would be happening...
My other feeds are not experiencing this problem...
The only message I get is for the one article and then news telling me
the article is in active but not sys. (in my log)

Any help greatly appreciated...

thanks,

Cuz I might not tell you what you want me to.

That sounds like a problem we are also having. Attempts to post from gnus on
the same host of from other news software on other hosts, e.g., TheNews on my
Macintosh, results in the nntp server dying. Sometimes the post is successful.
Othertimes the post does not take. I would be interested in hearing any
responses to this inquiry.

This probably isn't your problem, but I've seen the symptoms you
describe when one machine has trailers turned on and the other doesn't.
Another reason to turn trailers off.

After posting this article my feed conntacted me after contacting
the NNTP guru Stan Barber, and he stated that this would be fixed
in the next patch 11 I guess...

but he gave a quick fix...

in spawn.c comment out closelog();
recompile and reinstall...

I did this and it seems to work fine...
