[news.software.nntp] nntp 1.5.11 - REALDOMAIN, what's the point?

del@algol.mlb.semi.harris.com (Don Lewis) (02/13/91)

I'm not sure I understand the significance of the REALDOMAIN configuration
parameter in nntp 1.5.11. If GHNAME is defined, then the host name is
obtained by calling gethostname() and then passing the result to
gethostbyname(). This is all done in uname(). If REALDOMAIN is defined,
then the call to gethostbyname() is repeated. In neither place is the
return status of gethostbyname() checked, so if there is a name server
failure, a core dump will most likely result.
