[news.software.nntp] "XHDR" and multi-line header fields

jik@athena.mit.edu (Jonathan I. Kamens) (03/04/91)

Two questions:

  1) Is it a bug that NNTP version 1.5.8 (I know, I know, we should be running
a mroe recent version, but there were rumors of problems in 1.5.10, and by
this point we've decided to wait until 1.6, which is supposedly coming out
relatively soon) only sends the first line of a multi-line header, when such a
header is requested with XHDR. For example, if the subject of a message is
"multi-line\n\theader" and I try to retrieve it with XHDR, I'll only get
"multi-line".

  2) If it is a bug, is it fixed in a version later than 1.5.8, or, if not, is
it fixed in 1.6?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide. I guess if the
answer to (1) is yes and the answer to (2) is no, I'd be willing to code up a
patch (which would presumably replace any \n+whitespace in the multi-line
header with a single space, and then send it over the line that way; is there
a better thing to do?) and send it to Stan Barber for inclusion in 1.6, but I
wanted to check about it before doing that.
