[news.software.nntp] disconnect: Broken pipe Error Messages?

karl@grebyn.com (Karl A. Nyberg) (04/16/91)

I'm working on installing news on a Sun-3, SunOS 4.0.3. It seems to
be mostly working, but there are two problems. The first is that we
get the following error messages on an almost regular basis. The
second, undoubtedly related to the first, is that we aren't getting
all the news that there is. (I've checked a couple other sites to
find this out). Otherwise, reading, batching, posting and unbatching
seem to be working just fine.

Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this behaviour and/or
how to fix it?  Thanks.

	Apr 15 15:29:32 milo nntpd[2027]: news.uu.net disconnect: Broken pipe

According to common/version.c:

	char   nntp_version[] = "1.5.11 (31 January 1991)";

This problem was solved by getting a slightly later (Feb. 10, v Jan. 31)
version of NNTP.

Wait, my common/version.c says:

char    nntp_version[] = "1.5.11 (31 January 1991)";

So is there a 1.5.12 version? Or was the Feb. 10 version an unofficial
release?  I'm confused.

Historically, when I did a release, someone would certainly turn up a killer
bug. So, for 1.5.11, I did a prerelease on January 31st and a real release on
February 10th.

If you download from the official ftp archives, you will only get the Feb 10th
release. If you apply the patches, you only get the Feb 10th release. The Jan
31st release should be deleted.
