[news.software.nntp] rn 4.4 is coming around July 4th

rrn@lib.tmc.edu (Stan Barber) (05/24/91)

I am sure those of you who have been following things have noticed that
rn 4.4 and NNTP 1.6 are not out yet.

I was hopeful to get at least rn 4.4 out by now, but other things came
along and ate all my free time.

Now, I am beginning to see the light of day (or is the darkness of night)
again, so these beasties will get more of my time.

I would like to recruit about 10 or so beta testers for rn 4.4. If you
are interested, please send mail to "rrn@lib.tmc.edu"... The beta will
start June 4th and end July 4th. In your "application", tell me if you
currently use rn and on what platform. Tell me if you use NNTP or not.
I am particularly interested in systems with reasonable ANSI C compilers
and more System V than BSD characteristics. I have access to RS/6000,
Vax/Ultrix 3.1 and Risc/Ultrix 4.1, SunOS 4.1.1, ISC 2.1.1, Stardent Unix
2.2 and 3.0, and HP/UX 7.0. If you have something other than that, I am
most interested in having you involved. Please let me know before the end
of May.

How closely does trn track rn? Will a new release of trn follow as well?
Thanks.

A new release of trn based on rn 4.4 is in the planning stages.
