Our news server in a SUN SPARC and now some users on the IBM VM/CMS system want to read the news. The IBM box can telnet and do "sockets" to the Sun machine so the links are all in place, I'm just too lazy to write a reader. I guess I would also need an IBM based Pnews as well. If it's free, it needs to be "public domain" or copyleft. If it costs money let me know some pricing. Tanget: How about Mac based readers? He's written one that uses XEDIT as the display manager. You need the IBM Pascal compiler for it. You need to do some minor customization, as well. The code is functional and stable, but there are several people hacking on it to make improvements. Paul sends out periodic updates. The code is freely distributable. >Tangent: How about Mac based readers? See 'USENET software: history and sources' in news.announce.newusers. All of your questions are answered there. Look with ano-ftp on rusmv1.rus.uni-stuttgart.de [129.69.1.12] in soft/kommunikation/news/src/nnr/* Thats the remote news reader for VM written by Paul Campbell at Mitre.org, it works on our rusvm1 and it has no bugs. Parts are written in Pascal, thats the problem. Mail me if u want a binary, the rest of the stuff is xedit and REXX. It is available for FTP from sumex-aim.stanford.edu in the info-mac/comm directory. I'm still using version 1.4, but I hear 2.0 is out.
