[news.software.nntp] Help needed

netnews@alessia.dei.unipd.it (Usenet Administrator) (06/06/91)

Hi!

I've a problem: I have to use nntp with B-news, but it doesn't work.

NNTP server and normal B-news software is on a HP 9000, and all seems
to work by themselves. In another computer, an OLIVETTI LSX I've
compiled a NNTP-version of B-news and NNTP-inews.
Well, when I use postnews, or rn Pnews, I receive the message:

"article refused" and some obscure characters.
Then the article is stored on .bad directory on the server computer
but not posted.

Can anybody help me?

N.B.NNTP version is 1.5.11 and B-news version is 2.11

We'll assume that the B-news is 2.11 patchlevel 19. If not, then you need
to get that.

Now, if you are getting article refused, you nntp_access file may not allow
your site to post. Check to be sure that you have allowed posting for your
site in the nntp_access file.

If you are using both network address numbers and site names in your
nntp_access file, that may be the source of the problems. Such usage is
known to cause non-obvious problems. It will be altered in NNTP 1.6 to do
"the right thing".
