[news.software.nntp] Why doesn't my nntp server enqueue outgoing msgs?

stevef@bony1.bony.com (Steve Faiwiszewski) (06/07/91)

We have one Ultrix box which is our gateway to uunet using uucp, and
we have C news and nntp 1.5.8 running on it. When we use an nntp
client to post news articles from other nodes (using ANU news on a
VAX/VMS node, as well as the mini-inews client supplied with nntp
distribution running on an RS/6000), the nntpd server successfully
posts the articles on our gateway machine, but those items do not get
queued up to uunet. I've recompiled nntpd with LOG defined, yet
nothing dramatic shows up in the syslog.

I used to think that this used to work on our system, but as far as I
know nothing that could possibly break this changed.

What am I doing wrong? What should I be looking for? Any info would
be appreciated.
                Thanks,
                        - Steve -

enqueuing outgoing messages is a function of the news software, not NNTP.
Please look at your sys file and be sure you have set up the appropriate
flags to do this.

nntpxmit (or nntplink, if you like) will take care of sending the messages
once the news software has placed the appropriate information in the right
place.
