[comp.sys.ibm.pc.net] Best TCP/IP software for windows 3.0?

tek@ms.uky.edu (Thomas E. Kunselman) (09/25/90)

I'd appreciate it if someone could recommend the best tcp/ip package
to go with windows 3.0 on a 4MB machine hooked to an ethernet.
The ethernet cards have not been purchased yet, but as long as it
works with the software we intend to run, we can purchase whatever we want.

The only requirements are tn3270, ftp and lpr for remote spooling from
an ibm mainframe. There may will almost definitely be interest in running
X at some future time. Also some interest in running NFS between the pc's
and a mainframe.

Right now I'm thinking of MD-DOS/IP from Wiscware with a western digital
ethernet card. One thing I'm not clear on, will the programs in MD-DOS/IP
run concurrently or do I need something like the clarkson packet drivers
to allow these programs to function simultaneously?

Any information re: hardware and software would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Thom
