This posting is being made in order to provide you with an idea of what it
is that I am trying to accomplish as the coordinating moderator of this group.

Who am I? I am John Plocher; I work at the University of Wisconsin for the
Spanish and Portuguese Department. We have several dozen computer systems
of which two are running Microport V/AT. Our configuration includes a Bell
Tech 60 Mb tape backup unit, A Bell Tech 6 port smart serial card (ICC),
a 140Mb Maxtor, an 80Mb CDC-Wren, 3 Mb of memory, and several terminals.

We are running Microport DOSmerge 286 2.3U with Bell Tech tape and ICC drivers,
DeGroot's speaker driver, and shell layering enabled.

I have about 15Mb of source code avaliable - if you are interested in getting
it I would be glad to copy it to your DC300 or DC600 Data Cartridge. This
includes the following stuff (all of which works under V/AT):

    Bnews2.11/ kb/ pathalias9.1/ strings/ uucptools/
    agef/ la/ postlint/ talk/ uuencode/
    basic.sh lmail/ psq/ uemacs3.9/ watcher1987/
    benchmarks/ logo/ rn/ untic/ which/
    checkequ/ misc/ sc/ uuDG/ wp/
    elm1.5/ p2c/ smail2.5/ uucpath/ yasa/
    hum/ patch2.0/ soundex/ uucpinfo/ zmodem1.26/

For those without the Software Development package, I can also make binaries
avaliable (again on a DC300 or DC600 Data Cartridge, or 1.2Mb disks)
Send me email to arrange things (plocher@uwspan.uucp)

The mailbox "microport@uwspan.uucp" is really an interface to a program
(elm 1.5's filter) which does certain things based on what it finds on
the Subject: line of incoming email. Currently it knows about:

if subject contains then do this
    ------------------- ------------
"send" and "buglist"	return email with a copy of the current buglist
"send" and "version"	return email about when buglists were updated
"send" and "info" return email with info about the group
"bug" bounce message to the bug list maintainer
"source" or "src" or ".c"	bounce message to the source archiver
"dos" and "386" bounce message to the Merge-386 moderator
"merge" and "386" bounce message to the Merge-386 moderator
"dos" or "merge" bounce message to the Merge-286 moderator
"v.3" or "386" bounce message to the 386 moderator
"v/at" or "286" bounce message to the 286 moderator
"6300+ bounce message to the 6300+ moderator
none of the above: bounce message to the 286 moderator

The moderators all have a good relationship with Microport's sales, support,
and engineering staff; these contacts have all expressed a willingness to
help support the newsgroup by providing info and answering questions.

Things on the burner:
Bring the buglists up to date (They are currently full of 2.2 bugs)
Package up a 1.2Mb floppy of the most useful binaries
Get source from Microport for csh and vi and fix them :-)

If there are any other services which I can provide to the group, let me know.
