[comp.unix.microport] --- Homing in on the problem

fortin@zap.UUCP (Denis Fortin) (03/29/88)

Hello...

Remember me? I'm the guy who's having problems running System V/AT
at 10MHz. Well, the response to my previous posting has been quite nice
and persuaded me to do a bit of "Creative Hardware Reconfiguring" to
determine which board was causing me problems.

After getting rid of a number of small problems that added up to
make the picture totally confusing, I think that the problem *is* my
Extended Memory card. I've been able to run in 1MB at 10MHz for a while
(about an hour) without any crashes, so I guess the card might be the
problem (I don't want to run for too long with only 1MB because there
are just too many things that won't run in 1MB -> compress, some compilations,
etc).

However, I have heard from Steve Benz (mrspock@hubcap.clemson.edu)
that there might be some problems using some memory cards with Microport
SV/AT (something about DMA access to cards with no upper limit of
addressability?!?). Therefore I would appreciate it a lot if some people
out there could:

	1) tell me what brand of memory card they are using (at > 10MHz).

	2) tell me what they have heard about memory card problems with
	   SV/AT...

Send me mail, I will summarize to the net.

						Thanks!
