[comp.unix.microport] device drivers and dma

larry@focsys.UUCP (Larry Williamson ) (04/14/88)

We are writing a device driver that must use dma to fetch data
from an interface board. The documentation that microport supplies
with SV/AT is somewhat inadequate. We've been able to do most of
what we need, but there are some details missing.

We are looking for a guide that will help us out here. Some one
on the net recommended the book "writing a unix device driver",
but they did not say who the author or publisher was. It costs
approximately $25.00US. Does anyone know more about this or other
books?

My copy is out right now, perhaps we can get sp7040!jsp to look up the
publisher info, he has my copy! (Welcome to the Well of Souls Lending
Library :-). Another book you may find useful is _The IBM PC From the
Inside Out_, by Murrary Sargent III and Richard L. Shoemaker,
Addison-Wesly, 1986. ISBN 0-201-06918-0. I got it and the device
drivers book from:

		OPAMP Technical Books
		1033 North Sycamore Avenue
		Los Angeles, CA 90038
		+1 213 464 4322

They do mail order, and they take MasterCard, VISA, and American
Express (that I know of, they may take others too). It is a VERY GOOD
bookstore; if you can't find it at home, call them!

(One of the worst parts about living behind the Zion curtain is that
the bookstores in Utah are horrible).
