We are writing a device driver that must use dma to fetch data from an interface board. The documentation that microport supplies with SV/AT is somewhat inadequate. We've been able to do most of what we need, but there are some details missing. We are looking for a guide that will help us out here. Some one on the net recommended the book "writing a unix device driver", but they did not say who the author or publisher was. It costs approximately $25.00US. Does anyone know more about this or other books? -- Larry Williamson Focus Automation Systems UUCP: watmath!focsys!larry 608 Weber St. N, Waterloo, Ontario N2V 1K4 +1 519 746 4918

(Welcome to the Well of Souls Lending Library :-). Another book you may find useful is _The IBM PC From the Inside Out_, by Murrary Sargent III and Richard L. Shoemaker, Addison-Wesly, 1986. ISBN 0-201-06918-0. I got it and the device drivers book from: OPAMP Technical Books 1033 North Sycamore Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90038 +1 213 464 4322 They do mail order, and they take MasterCard, VISA, and American Express (that I know of, they may take others too). It is a VERY GOOD bookstore; if you can't find it at home, call them! (One of the worst parts about living behind the Zion curtain is that the bookstores in Utah are horrible). -- /\ - "Against Stupidity, - {backbones}! /\/\ . /\ - The Gods Themselves - utah-cs!utah-gr! / \/ \/\/ \ - Contend in Vain." - uplherc!sp7040! / U i n T e c h \ - Schiller - obie!wes
