I took a deep breath and installed 2.3.1 this afternoon. It went much easier than I expected. I had a look at what files were going to be installed. Mostly there was nothing to worry about. The only files that I had to protect were the Makefile, master and dfile.wini in /usr/linkkit/cf and the library lib3 in /usr/linkkit and my current boot system, /system5. Once the install was complete, I had only to integrate my modes to Makefile, and to add my custom devices to master and dfile.wini. Then I made a new kernal to use these custom devices and rebooted. Nothing to it. I've got only one problem with the new system. Getty will not start up on my modem. I did have getty starting on ttyM0, but now it will not come up. My /etc/inittab entry is t0:23:respawn:/etc/getty ttyM0 1200R getty is respawned over and over and over again. I am able to send data out on this line, that is the line this news item was sent out on. Getty is new. I think I like the new console driver. It will take a bit of use before I'm sure I like it, but I think it will be nice. larry -- Larry Williamson Focus Automation Systems UUCP: watmath!focsys!larry 608 Weber St. N, Waterloo, Ontario N2V 1K4 +1 519 746 4918
