The salient point of merging *.xenix and *.microport is that there very shortly will no longer be significant operational differences between Bell-Tech/Microport/interactive/AT&T/Intel 's System V/386 and Microsoft/SCO/IBM's Xenix product since the two products are being merged into being compatible -- binary compatible even. Price, device-drivers, support, etc. will obviously vary by vendor. People who oppose the merger and do not address this point aren't addressing the whole issue. I might be persuaded that the merger should hold off until Xenix becomes COFF compatible, but I haven't been persuaded yet. In any event, the merger is due Real Soon Now.
