[comp.unix.microport] 386 help

lester@ka3adu.UUCP (lester) (08/31/88)

I have been using Uport/286 for about a year and a half now with none of the
major problems people have been complaing about.
Only thing is after installing the tape driver I had to go back to mono-chrome
and use the par port on that for my orinter.
It seems that the par port (pure blue on my clone AT) would conflict with the
tape card. It just wouldn't print.

I'm running a compuadd 8Mhz at clone with 3 meg ram and about 110 meg drive
space, digiboard comm/8(dumb board), hayes sm2400 external, Everex Wangtex
60 meg external tape.

I do not have the serial port problems people seem to complain about.
Just wanted to put my 2 cents in on the flames.

Now the questions:

I'm upgrading to a Compaq 386/20(got my order in too early for the 25) which
will have 130 meg drive, 16 megs of 32 bit ram, 2 digiboard comm8/i inteligent
cards, Telebit TB+, tape backup etc.
I will try to run Merge/386 on it and would like to know if the terminals tied
in will be able to run dos(as rumored).

Can I access a CD player/software that requies a device in CONFIG.SYS on DOS.
I would like to be able to get to this from the terms.

Does anyone have any experience with the controller on this Compaq ?
It only has 1 set of connecters for the hard drive, not like the 2 sets on
standard AT controller. I had planned on adding an additional drive, but I
don't see how to do it with this contoller.

                                Thanks, Bob
