[net.micro] Making DOS look more like UNIX

micom@houxf.UUCP (D.SYKORA) (03/20/84)

I don't know if this only applies to the IBM PC or not, but if you put

			SWITCHAR=-

in your CONFIG.SYS file you can use "/" instead of "\" for pathnames
and "-" instead of "/" for options.

Has anyone done any hacking to COMMAND.COM to rename some of the internal
commands? I tried but so far have had only limited success. Using
DEBUG on COMMAND.COM is not a pleasant chore.

  It you do set switchar so PC-DOS looks more like UNIX, some programs,
particularly backup programs, will not work any more. This is an undocumented
feature, so use at your own risk. Back issues of info-ibmpc have other
messages on this topic.
