[comp.unix.microport] Looking for Relational Database for uPort 386

bear@stab.se (Bjorn Sjoholm) (10/05/88)

I am looking for a relational database manager runnable
under Microport 386 UNIX. The database needs to have
	a routine-package callable from C, and preferable
some kind of Query Language. One database manager
that would fit is Oracle, but it doesn't run under uPort yet.

So my questions are as follows:

	- Is there a database manager like this?

	- Who sells it and what is the price?

	- Is there one in Public Domain?

	- Which other UNIX'es does the database run under?

	- What are your impressions of the database manager?

I will summarize the responses to the net if that
	is of interest.

Oracle for UNIX 5.2/3 on the 386 is currently in beta test. I've
had a copy on my system for about a month. It has a few problems
but works fine for development and should be in pretty good shape
by the time anyone expects to go production using it.

I have been using Accell 1.3 (The development environment) and Unify
(The relational database) under Microport 386 Unix since April. The
price is $4500, and the support contract is $1500. It contains everything
you mentioned in your original message.

I have been using it to develop a database system to handle amino acid
analysis at the Oregon Health Sciences University.

As a disclaimer, I have no connection with Unify Corp other than as a
customer.
